Chapter Fifteen

Bailey rushed through the door with her arms full of decorations; Harper trailed behind her. “I told you we should have hired someone to do this,” Harper complained. “Decorating is not fun to me, Bailey Cooper.”

Bailey laughed as she avoided hitting herself on the doorframe of Kelvin and Piper’s front door. “Stop whining. All you have done is whine. Yet, you had so much fun at the party store picking out the stuff with me. And you were over there trying to tell me what went best with the table accessories. So don’t give me that nonsense that you don’t think any of this is fun. You think it’s fun, Harper Cooper; you just don’t want to admit it.”

“Whatever, hurry up and go in. It’s freezing out here!” Harper pushed through the door.

Bailey and Harper decided to throw a going away party for Kelvin and Piper before Christmas. Since their family didn’t do a big Christmas celebration, they decided to make it a big celebration instead of that. But Christmas-themed. Piper had been sold on the idea, and since they were not selling their house, it made sense to have it at Kelvin and Piper’s house, which they had fully decorated for the holidays.

Harper insisted on having the party catered. She refused to budge on that. Bailey attempted to pursue a potluck-style dinner, but Harper said no and that she had seen enough many potlucks at work to last her a lifetime. She paid for the caterer herself, which no one complained about.

“You’re here!” Piper exclaimed as the sisters rushed through the doors with arms filled with bags of cheesy decorations.

Harper huffed. “These are not my idea. This is all Bailey. I was under duress.”

Piper laughed. “Oh, I’m sure it is all great. What matters is we are all together.”

Kelvin walked over, wearing ridiculous reindeer antlers that lit up, and Harper looked like she was ready to either run or attack. “What are you wearing, and why?” Harper asked.

Kelvin hugged his sister. “Merry Christmas to you, too, sister! There are all sorts of silly headgear over on the table for all of us. Piper and I picked them up the other day just for this.”

Bailey rushed to the kitchen. “Oh, man, this is going to be so fun!”

Harper did not look at all amused. Kelvin playfully socked her in the arm. “Oh, come on, Dr. Cooper, even you can lighten up for an evening.” He lifted his brows.

Harper rolled her eyes. “You know, I had no idea how cheesy you were. But now I know.” She walked away with all the bags and joined Bailey.

Bailey looked for an elf hat that lit up. “Come on, you need to wear something on your head, which isn’t too bad. Stop being such a Scrooge, Harper.”

As Bailey adjusted a hat on Harper’s head, their parents walked in. The playfulness stopped.

Kelvin walked to the door, and Piper joined him at his side. “Mom, Dad. Thank you for joining us.”

Jacqui and Phillip simply nodded. However, other guests arrived right behind them, giving them no time for any further discussion.
